Hepatitis B Surface Antigen(HBsAg) and Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (HBsAb) Incidence among Korean Leprosy Patients in Settled Villages
ÐÝÔ³ìé¿Ü12¸í/Do Il Kim and et. al
Abstract
Sera from clinically, bacteriologically and pathologically proven 591 leprosy patients
living in the 11 settled villages of the 3 districts were tested for Hepatitis B surface
Antigen(HBsAg) and Hepatitis B Surface Antibody(HBsAb) using methods of RPHA
and PHA accordingly. The HBsAg and HBsAb in leprosy patients were evaluated in
sex, age, disease type and district differences.
The following results were obtained ;
1. The positivity frequencies of HBsAg and HBsAb in leprosy patients were 8.8% and
33.7% in each, and there was no sex differences in HBsAg and HBsAb incidences
among them.
2. In general the HBsAg and HBsAb incidences were comparatively higher in socially
active age group(21-40 years) patients than in the other age groups.
3. There were no difference in the incidences of HBsAg and HBsAb in the both
multibacillary(L+B) and paucibaillary(T+I), that were 9.1% and 8.3%, and 33.5% and
33.9% respectively.
4. The incidence of HBsAg in Honam district showed slightly higher tendency than in
the other districts, while the HBsAb showed significantly lower incidence tendency
compared to the other districts.
5. There was no direct evidence of the relationship of the HBsAg and HBsAb with
the immunological state of the leprosy patients.
